How to calculate percentage from GPA?

GPA To Percent Calculator

You can easily calculate your percentage from GPA just  follow some simple steps mentioned below.

FORMULA :

Percentage = ( GPA min – Min GPA ) / (Max GPA−Min GPA)×100

Steps to calculate GPA:

Step 1: Identify your GPA scale and determine your GPA according to it.

Step 2: Then, identify the maximum GPA in your grading system.

Step 3: Identify Minimum GPA usually it is 0, but it is completely based on your grading system.

Step 4: Now, Subtract the Minimum GPA from Your GPA: GPA−Min GPA

Step 5: Subtract the Minimum GPA from the Maximum GPA.

  • Max GPA−Min GPA

Step 6: Then, divide result  of step 4 by the result of step 5 to get a decimal value.

Step 7: Multiply your result by 100 and convert it into a percentage.

Example (for a 4.0 scale GPA)

Let’s say your GPA is 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

  • Your GPA = 3.5
  • Max GPA = 4.0, Min GPA = 0
  • Subtract: 3.5−0 = 3.5
  • Subtract: 4.0−0 = 4.0
  • Divide: 3.5/4.0 = 0.875
  • Multiply by 100: 0.875 × 100=87.5%
  • So, your GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale is 87.5%.

What is the difference between weighted and Non Weighted GPA?

The key difference between a weighted GPA and a non-weighted GPA lies in the difficulty of your courses let’s understand them in a more detailed manner.

1. Weighted GPA:

It is based on the course difficulty level.  Weighted GPA provides extra points for taking more challenging courses, such as honors, Advanced Placement, or International Baccalaureate classes. CGPA uses a higher scale than the standard 4.0 scale.

For example, an A in an AP class might be worth 5.0 instead of the standard 4.0. Students who take harder courses can earn a GPA higher than 4.0 on the basis of their performance.

Example: A in a regular class = 4.0, A in an honors/AP class = 5.0

2. Non-weighted GPA:

Non-weighted method does not provide extra points for difficulty level. It treats all classes equally. You will earn the same points for an A in a regular class as for an A in an AP class.

Example: A in any class (whether regular or advanced) = 4.0

Here a is specified as subject.

GPA to percentage calculation in different countries ?

GPA to a percentage conversion varies on the basis of a country and their grading system. Here are some examples of different countries and their grading systems. Let’s understand them one by one.

1. United States (4.0 Scale): It is the most popular method in the US for the calculation of GPA.

GPA to Percentage

4.0 GPA = 90-100%

3.7 GPA = 85-89%

3.3 GPA = 80-84%

3.0 GPA = 75-79%

2.7 GPA = 70-74%

2.0 GPA = 60-69%

Below 2.0 = Below 60%

Formula:

Percentage = (GPA/4)×100

2. United Kingdom : UK universities use a degree classification system, where students are awarded a degree based on their performance:

Conversion to Percentage

First Class = 70% or higher

Upper Second Class (2:1) = 60-69%

Lower Second Class (2:2) = 50-59%

Third Class = 40-49%

Fail = Below 40%

You can use the following approximate conversion method for US universities:

4.0 GPA = 70% and above (First Class)

3.0 GPA = 60-69% (2:1 Class)

2.0 GPA = 50-59% (2:2 Class)

4. Canada (4.0 Scale): Canadian universities also use a similar method to the U.S. system

Conversion to Percentage

4.0 GPA = 90-100%

3.7 GPA = 85-89%

3.0 GPA = 75-79%

2.0 GPA = 60-69%

Below 2.0 = Below 60%

5. Australia (7.0 Scale): Australian universities mostly use a 7-point scale for academic evaluation.

Conversion to Percentage:

7.0 GPA = 85-100%

6.0 GPA = 75-84%

5.0 GPA = 65-74%

4.0 GPA = 50-64%

Below 4.0 = Below 50%

6. Germany (1.0 to 5.0 Scale): German universities use a reverse scale method where a lower GPA means a better grade and a higher GPA means worse grades.

Conversion to Percentage

1.0 GPA = 90-100%

2.0 GPA = 80-89%

3.0 GPA = 70-79%

4.0 GPA = 60-69%

5.0 GPA = Fail
